1799-1829

1799: James Harper is born in Fairfield, PA.

1820: James Harper relocates to the foothills of NC and creates a chain of mercantile and hardware stores in the Lenoir area.

1825: James Harper builds his family home in Lenoir and names it "Fairfield." Known as Fairfield Plantation, the property originally included 23 outbuildings, of which only one remains today.

1829: James Harper opens a mercantile and hardware store, J. Harper & Son, on the property adjacent to the Fairfield House. He also serves as the area postmaster.

1841-1894

1841: James Harper donates land to establish the town of Lenoir, NC.

1852: James Harper organizes the First Presbyterian Church of Lenoir.

1868: James Harper Beall, the future founder of Fairfield Chair, is born at the Fairfield House.

1894: Bank of Lenoir is established with $10,000 in capital by Major GWF Harper. James Harper Beall joins the bank and dedicates 60 years to it, including 40 years as President.

1921-1961

1921: James Harper Beall III joins Fairfield Chair Company. Lenoir, NC.

1852: James Harper organizes the First Presbyterian Church of Lenoir.

1868: James Harper Beall, the future founder of Fairfield Chair, is born at the Fairfield House.

1894: Bank of Lenoir is established with $10,000 in capital by Major GWF Harper. James Harper Beall joins the bank and dedicates 60 years to it, including 40 years as President.

1964-1984

1964: James Harper Beall III joins Fairfield Chair Company.

1966: Fairfield expands Plant #1 on Harper Avenue in Lenoir with a three-story addition.

1970: Fairfield completes its showroom on Highway 321 in Lenoir.

1971: Fairfield's construction of Plant #2 on Kincaid Circle in Lenoir is completed.

1972: James Harper Beall, Jr. becomes President of Fairfield.

1984: James Harper Beall, Jr. and James Harper Beall III purchase all Fairfield stock, securing full ownership for the Beall family. James Harper Beall III becomes President and Fairfield begins showing at High Point Furniture Market.

1980s-2003

1980s: President and Nancy Reagan are pictured in Fairfield Chairs.

1997: Fairfield completes an expansion of Plant #2.

2001: Fairfield broadens its product line to serve the Senior Living sector.

2003: James Harper Beall III becomes CEO and Chairman of the Board; Richard Posey becomes President.

2015-2021

2015: John Beall becomes Chairman of the Board.

2016: Fairfield opens a new High Point showroom on North Hamilton Street.

2017: Dixon Mitchell becomes President and Chief Executive Officer of Fairfield.

2020: In response to the global pandemic, Fairfield attains essential business status, keeps workers employed, and produces lifesavings masks and gowns for health care personnel.

2021: Fairfield celebrates its 100th Anniversary.

2022-2024

2022: Anne-Lindsay Beall, fourth generation Beall family member, joins Fairfield as Lead Director of the Board.

2023: Fairfield receives the "Large Business" award from NC Governor Roy Cooper at the Governor's Export Awards.

2024: Fairfield expands its High Point Market Showroom and continues to partner with leading interior designers to highlight the versatility of Fairfield products.

2025-Today

2025: Fairfield is featured on CNN, CBS Mornings (including outfitting the CBS Mornings Green Room), and in Our State Magazine and The Wall Street Journal.

Fairfield receives the Pinnacle Award for the Everett Bedroom in the Luxury Bedroom category.

Anne-Lindsay Beall, fourth-generation owner, becomes Chairman of the Board — the first woman to hold the role.

Today: Fairfield has reimagined its brand, refreshed its design aesthetic, and expanded its product line to include whole-home offerings – all while staying true to its founders' values and mission to be the most trusted brand in furniture.
